Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 18, 2026
Happening ("Happening", "we", "us") is a social camera app for iPhone that ties photos and videos to the real places where they were taken. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign up we collect your email address and a username, and store sign-in credentials through Amazon Cognito (our authentication provider). You may optionally add a profile photo.
- Content you create. The photos, videos, captions, tags, and the place or venue you attach to a post.
- Location information. With your permission, your device's location is used to anchor a post to the place you're at, to show you nearby content, and—if you enable notifications—to let you know when something is popular near you. We use location only while you are using the app.
- Device & notification data. If you enable push notifications, we store a device push token so we can deliver them. We also collect basic device and diagnostic information to operate and debug the app.
- Usage information. How you interact with the app (for example, posts you view or save) to provide and improve the service.
How we use your information
- To provide the core experience: place-anchored posting and nearby discovery.
- To create and secure your account and verify it's you.
- To send transactional, account-related email — verification codes, password resets, and important security or service notices. We do not send marketing or promotional email.
- To deliver push notifications you have enabled (for example, when a post is trending near you). You can turn these off at any time in iOS Settings.
- To keep the community safe — moderation, abuse prevention, and enforcing our Terms of Service.
Email and notifications
Email from Happening is strictly transactional and tied to your own account actions (such as confirming your address or resetting your password). We do not add you to mailing lists, and we do not sell or share your email address for marketing. Push notifications are optional and controlled by you in iOS Settings.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:
- With other users, to the extent you choose to post publicly — your posts, username, and profile photo are visible to others in the app.
- With service providers who operate the app on our behalf, such as Amazon Web Services (hosting, database, email delivery, and push) and Apple (push notification delivery). They may process data only to provide these services to us.
- For legal and safety reasons, when required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.
Your location choices
Location is requested only "while using the app." You can grant or revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. If you decline, place-anchored and nearby features will be limited.
Data retention and deletion
You can delete individual posts at any time. You can also delete your account from within the app, which removes your profile and associated content from our active systems. We retain information only as long as needed to provide the service or as required by law.
Security
We protect your information using industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit and at rest, and we run on Amazon Web Services infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your data.
Children
Happening is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
